Olympic Breakfast: Day 16 - 2

Summary

Gabby Logan and Sam Quek introduce coverage of the concluding boxing finals on day 16, with possible British interest across the board at Kokugikan Arena. Former kickboxing world champion and Wales football international Lauren Price claimed a gold medal at the 2019 World Championship, and is favourite for the middleweight title. Her young team-mate Caroline Dubois is also a contender, and looking to turn youth Olympic gold into a senior one. The final event is the men's super heavyweight at 7.30, which sees Uzbekistan's Bakhodir Jalolov take on USA's Richard Torrez Jr. There will also be action from gold medal matches in women's handball and volleyball, and men's water polo.

Review

Jason and Laura Kenny’s mantlepiece could become yet more decorated on the final day of the Tokyo Games, as Jason competes in the men’s keirin before Laura races in the women’s omnium. Jason arrived in Tokyo with six gold medals to his name, a feat only Chris Hoy has matched, though it’s possible that Laura could equal him in the keirin. However, both of them will have to fend off the Dutch, who are perhaps just as fancied as GB in these events.

Boxing finals and a men’s marathon sure to feature Kenya’s record-breaking Eliud Kipchoge are also on today’s schedule, before there’s the Closing Ceremony, where sport meets showbiz. With the absence of spectators sorely felt across the Games that had to clear Olympian hurdles simply just to take place, expect a show of equal glitz to those seen in Rio and London.
