Olympics 2020 Live: Day 16 - 1

JJ Chalmers introduces coverage from the 16th and final day of the Olympics Games, as the track cycling draws to a close at the Izu Velodrome with two events Great Britain have a brilliant record in. Team GB's golden couple, Laura and Jason Kenny, won the omnium and keirin titles respectively in Rio, so expectation is high of a repeat. The women's sprint final also takes place, as the curtain is drawn on the velodrome. The men's marathon is the final athletics event of the Games, and Team GB's Callum Hawkins has a phenomenal battle on his hands if he is to stop the brilliant Africans and, in particular, legendary Kenyan Eliud Kipchoge, who is defending his Olympic title. Sapporo Odori Park is the venue for the race, which is expected to finish around 12.45.

Jason and Laura Kenny’s mantlepiece could become yet more decorated on the final day of the Tokyo Games, as Jason competes in the men’s keirin before Laura races in the women’s omnium. Jason arrived in Tokyo with six gold medals to his name, a feat only Chris Hoy has matched, though it’s possible that Laura could equal him in the keirin. However, both of them will have to fend off the Dutch, who are perhaps just as fancied as GB in these events.

Boxing finals and a men’s marathon sure to feature Kenya’s record-breaking Eliud Kipchoge are also on today’s schedule, before there’s the Closing Ceremony, where sport meets showbiz. With the absence of spectators sorely felt across the Games that had to clear Olympian hurdles simply just to take place, expect a show of equal glitz to those seen in Rio and London.
