Turkey v Wales

Summary

Turkey v Wales (Kick-off 5.00pm). Gabby Logan presents all the action from the Group A encounter, which takes place at Olympic Stadium in Baku, Azerbaijan. Turkey were thrashed 3-0 by an impressive Italian side in the opening match of the tournament last Friday, and need to quickly regain their composure and confidence if they're to have any chance of qualifying for the last 16. Wales were also poor in their first match, but managed to secure a crucial 1-1 draw against Switzerland. These two countries have never met in the finals of a major tournament before, and their most recent match took place way back in August 1997. A memorable World Cup qualifier in Istanbul finished 6-4 to the home side, with legendary striker Hakan Sukur bagging four of Turkey's goals. Mark Hughes and Ashley Williams provide analysis, while commentary comes from Steve Wilson and Robbie Savage.

Review

Today's second round of group-stage matches begins with Finland travelling to Russia in Group B (1:45pm, kick-off 2pm BBC One), before focus switches to Group A.

Italy host Switzerland in Rome in the late game (7:15pm k/o 8pm ITV), yet attention will first turn to Turkey v Wales, and the former have all the hallmarks of a surprise package. Veteran striker Burak Yilmaz has become something of a cult hero after recently firing Lille to a first French league title in ten years at the ripe old age (by football’s standards) of 35, while the team’s defence boasts Leicester’s Caglar Soyuncu and conceded a mere three times in qualifying.

In trying to breach it, Wales will likely threaten from the wings, and the direct running of Manchester United’s Daniel James will be key to any joy they may have out wide.
