Episode 6: Bake Off: The Professionals

Summary

The patisserie chefs face chocolate week, beginning with a sharing dessert using both chocolate and a favourite ingredient of judge Cherish Finden. For the showpiece, the teams must construct chocolate showpieces on a house-of-horrors theme, including a moving part, along with 48 smaller treats - all in just five hours. Presented by Tom Allen and Liam Charles.

Review

Almost every week is a horror in the Bake Off: the Professionals kitchen, with collapsed creations par for the course (and yes, there are even more this week). However, tonight is scarier than most, with the chefs tasked with creating horror-themed chocolate showpieces. One pair really embraces this brief with salted caramel crickets.

But first they must make a sharing dessert featuring one of Cherish Finden’s favourite ingredients. When one chef thanks Benoit Blin for being kind, he retorts, “That might not last.” And it certainly doesn’t, because when it comes to assessing the showpieces, Benoit has a particularly brutal takedown for the makers of one creation. “I’m not going to lie to you,” he huffs. “I’m bored.”
