Episode 1: SAS: Who Dares Wins

Summary

The 21 new recruits for the sixth series face an intense start when the train they are travelling on is the subject of a fake hijack to test the passengers' reactions. The trainees are then pitted them against each other in a race up a 4000ft mountain, followed by a 100ft abseil off an oil rig, as the team of instructors look for people who can handle anything that is thrown at them.

Review

It’s series six of the reality show that’s more real than most, as 20 civilians put themselves through a version of SAS training, or “hell” for short. “Move, maggots!” is about the only printable thing that the training staff – who seem perpetually furious – shout at the recruits, while the latter slog up a hill with 40-pound backpacks or crawl through mud.

There is a lot of abuse and general unpleasantness, starting when the staff board the train the recruits are travelling to the camp in and haul them off. Tattoo artist John confesses his biggest fears are heights and open water…shortly before he is required to abseil off an oil rig. Meanwhile, trans recruit Holly tries to prove she’s got what it takes.
