Episode 5: Amsterdam

Summary

Gregg heads to Amsterdam, learning about its history and touring its art galleries and canals to find out why the Dutch capital became known as the most liberal place in Europe. Gregg also gets stuck into the food and returns to his market roots with a trip to Amsterdam's famous flower-trading floor, where over half the world's blooms pass through at some point.

Review

Gregg Wallace has had more trips abroad than most recently, but he doesn’t know Amsterdam well so he’s putting that right on his final weekend away.

He reveals a few out-of-the-way attractions as well as enthusiastically doing all the traditional tourist things – bike riding, looking at the art in the Rijksmuseum and cruising the canals - although you’ll be relieved to know he isn’t tempted to pop into a cannabis café. I dread to think what he’d be like after that.

And of course, he eats occasionally, hoovering up Holland’s favourite dishes such as the rib-sticking hutspot, tooth-rottingly sweet stroopwafels and rijsttafel (an Indonesian feast).
