Episode 2: Air Ambulance

Summary

Maleek reveals his dream of a job in the helicopter service after meeting arrogant air ambulance paramedic Phil. Wendy pushes him to use this new connection, but ends up making an unwanted one of her own. Hot-headed newcomer Kareshma is paired with cautious veteran Gary for her first shift, while Jo uses self-defence training to get Lawrence's attention.

Review

I can’t quite put my finger on what makes Bloods so funny. Perhaps it’s the combination of punchy one-liners, slapstick humour and moments of complete absurdity (ie when Maleek, mid-roadside-surgery, is asked to hold a patient’s heart or when team leader Jo gives herself concussion while flirting with a colleague).

This week, London-based paramedics Maleek (Samson Kayo) and Wendy (Jane Horrocks) work alongside the air ambulance crew, who are, undoubtedly, the cream of the response units crop. Maleek’s high-flying dream – to trade the streets for the air – are dashed by his fear of heights. Meanwhile, Wendy is exploring the world of dating apps on a quest to find a passionate one-night stand.
