Episode 3: Johnny Vegas: Carry on Glamping

Summary

The launch of the site is just days away, but Johnny's last-minute design changes for his Maltese bus, including hand painting more than 200 tiles for the shower, are driving craftsman Pauleo to despair. Meanwhile, Bev is putting the finishing touches to the site up in Yorkshire before Johnny arrives to inspect the first of the vehicles, , including a converted American school bus and a beautifully restored Morris Minor Caravanette.

Review

Johnny Vegas is such an endearing, complicated soul, he’s made a living from seeming to be an amiable buffoon, but really at heart he’s an artist, and a gentleman, too.

He very much has his own way of doing things as, at last, his Yorkshire glamping site is close to opening. Yes, it really is happening, and Vegas is overwhelmed when he first sets eyes on his work. He commissions a sculpture for the site, something that represents “salvation… new life… escape” and designs bespoke tiles for the shower of his Maltese bus Patricia, named after his late mum.

But the trailer to next week’s episode, when Patricia is delivered, is excruciating.
