Review

Buckle up for a shiny new prison-break drama in space from creator Julie Gearey (Prisoners’ Wives, Secret Diary of a Call Girl).

It starts in London, 120 years in the future, where cop Ash Harper (Savannah Steyn) is a bit of a hotshot. In the opening sequence she brings down a perp and is put forward for a commendation. But then she’s accused of a crime she didn’t commit and is sent into exile on a spaceship women’s prison to await trial. Aboard the Hemlock, the miscreants have no intention of settling down quietly, and it’s not long before they engineer a scheme to take over the ship.

Motives so far are murky, but the scene-setting is great, the effects and fight scenes are very well realised, and there’s a winning mix of new and well-known faces (Parminder Nagra, Craig Parkinson, Eleanor Tomlinson). It’s very nicely done.
