Review

On December 28, 1992, 23-year-old Steven Clark vanished during a family walk along the beach at Saltburn, near Middlesbrough. He’d stopped to use the toilet, but his parents, Doris and Charles, never saw him again.

Steven, who had disabilities caused by a road accident when he was a toddler, was classed by police as a "missing person" until the story took an extraordinary turn in September last year after a cold case review, when the elderly Doris and Charles were arrested on suspicion of their son’s murder. Officers spent five days searching the Clarks’ home and garden.

Former detective turned investigative journalist Mark Williams-Thomas examines this strange and unsettling case and talks extensively to Doris and Charles, who were not charged.

Williams-Thomas looks at the early investigation and reported sightings of Steven by people who knew him, and the possible significance of an anonymous letter, sent to police in 1999.
