Episode 8: Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star

Summary

The three finalists take part in their biggest professional assignment to date, delivering their own masterclass in which they demonstrate a signature look in front of a panel of industry heavyweights. One contestant tackles male grooming, the second showcases special effects and the third aims to dazzle with a quick smokey eye. The next day the trio face their final creative brief, coming up with a look that demonstrates what makes them unstoppable as a make-up artist, before the judges decide which two will compete in the final face off. Hosted by Maya Jama. Last in the series.

Review

Ding dong and boom-shaka-laka! These three young finalists are all, without doubt, extraordinarily skilful make-up artists. Even if you’re someone who reckons anything other than a slick of lip gloss is unnecessary, you can’t fail to be impressed at what they have been able to achieve. Sometimes it’s jaw-dropping.

The first of their challenges is to present a live online make-up masterclass to a panel of industry giants. It’s vital they do well at this because beauty vlogs are massive: guest judge Lisa Eldridge (who recently presented BBC2’s Make Up: A Glamorous History series) has two million subscribers to her tutorials. There’s also the chance that one of the experts will be impressed enough to offer them mentoring or some work.

Val Garland and Dominic Skinner have a tough time deciding which two will go through to the face-off (and I’d have been sad whoever fell at the last hurdle) while there’s not an eyelash between the final two MUAs.
