Episode 1: Glow Up: Britain's Next Make-Up Star

Summary

New series. The contest for aspiring make-up artists returns, with new host Maya Jama. The contestants' first professional assignment sees them creating an eye-catching look for a Superdrug beauty campaign. In the creative brief, judges Val Garland and Dominic Skinner ask the artists to show what makes them unique. Only then do the judges decide which two will take on the first elimination face-off.

Review

Following on from Lisa Eldridge’s make-up history lesson earlier this evening, it’s time to see what current MUAs (that’s make-up artists – where have you been?) can do. Ten young hopefuls are challenged to transform their models for, say, a beauty retailer’s marketing campaign or create a “clumpy lashes look” to impress judges Val “Ding Dong” Garland and Dominic Skinner. They’re hard to please, but the rest of us will be amazed at the incredible looks the MUAs produce. By the way, if you think presenter Stacey Dooley has changed her appearance, she hasn’t – she’s been replaced by The Circle’s Maya Jama.
