Review

A sparkling addition to all the cooking, pottery, sewing and gardening talent shows that we love, this introduces us to the magical world of jewellery-making. It’s presented by Katherine Ryan – sporting a lovely pair of earrings by the way – while the work of the eight jewellers (a trio of bangles and a bespoke silver pendant) is judged by Shaun Leane and Solange Azagury-Partridge, neither of whom mince their words. The Birmingham workshop buzzes with the sounds of sawing, buffing, filing and hammering … as well as the occasional under-the-breath cursing.

It’s quite addictive watching the intricate work that goes into the designing and making of a dazzling piece of jewellery and the results are gorgeous. So even though Azagury-Partridge, in particular, is brutal with her criticisms, I’d be thrilled to wear any of them.
