Episode 2: Whitby

Summary

Rosie Jones is joined by fellow comedian Joe Wilkinson for a traditional seaside adventure in the North Yorkshire coastal town of Whitby, a place that boasts history, gothic architecture and the chippie that won the award for the UK's best fish and chips. The pair explore the area's famed Jurassic Coast where, alongside a fossil-hunting expert, they attempt to find ancient relics on the beach. In homage to the area's association with Dracula, the duo also enjoy a full gothic makeover. Narrated by Olivia Colman.

Review

Rosie Jones continues with what is unashamedly a deeply inconsequential celebrity travel show. This week she’s in Whitby with Joe Wilkinson, having a go at fossil-hunting, crabbing and crazy golf, as well as sampling the town’s famously delicious fish and chips, and visiting a museum of Victorian science that turns out to be one man in a shed full of antique gizmos.

With Wilkinson apparently just being himself - so not quite the funny but mildly disturbing oddball seen on Eight out of Ten Cats or Taskmaster - it’s another very pleasant mini-break.

This week’s stooges, in the background of the sharper comic interludes where Jones phones a fictional C4 executive to report on the show’s progress, are Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy from Sunday Brunch.
