Episode 3: Norwich

Summary

Rosie Jones takes fellow comedian and broadcaster Jamali Maddix to the East Anglian city of Norwich. The pair learn an 18th-century folk dance from a bunch of local men who are keeping the tradition of molly dancing alive, tour the city's epic cathedral and watch tiny trains go round and round at the UK's largest indoor model attraction. The duo also taste a variety of wines at a nearby vineyard and sober up in time to attend a blacksmithing course, during which they heat and hammer metal under the guidance of a local artisan. Narrated by Olivia Colman.

Review

“I hope this isn’t setting the tone for the rest of the trip,” says Jamali Maddix after he and Rosie Jones meet men dressed as women carrying broomsticks and doing something called Molly dancing. It is.

They’re in Norfolk where the (fake) Channel 4 commissioning editor doesn’t mind the exuberant Rosie getting into the wrestling ring but warns her to keep away from anything religious because of the “Celebrity Hunted, Archbishop of Canterbury going missing thing”. So obviously they go straight to the cathedral. Like Travel Man this is a wonderful and funny antidote to all those earnest celebrity travelogues that try to educate us about stuff.
