Review

We all love a sitcom loser and they don’t come much more hangdog than Jon Richardson, who this week is feeling emasculated in every area of his life. Wife Lucy is doing him down on her radio show with Rob Beckett, as the opening of a jar’s stubborn lid leads to a horrible spillage on the carpet, and then there’s a crisis with an electric sander that results in Jon wrecking the house.

What there isn’t (thankfully) is a cloying “aw, shucks” moment when he’s revealed to actually be lovable all along. Rather, this series seems to revel in making Jon as misanthropic as possible, to the extent that it’s now become Curb Your Enthusiasm in a cardigan.
