Episode 3: The River Po, Italy

Summary

A journey down the River Po, travelling across northern Italy from the snow-capped Alps to the spell-binding delta, where the river meets the Adriatic Sea. The trek concludes in Chioggia, an island town in the Venetian lagoon, home to one of the biggest fish markets on the Adriatic. Bill Nighy narrates.

Review

As none of us can currently holiday abroad, these placid C5 pop-them-in-your-pocket travelogues are nifty reminders of what we’re missing.

Such as a leisurely pootle along the river Po in Northern Italy, with Bill Nighy as our guide (though just as narrator). It’s all quite straightforward – nothing wrong with that – as we are invited aboard various craft.

So prepare to spend time with a river surveyor who loves his job (“They pay me to ride a boat all day, but if they noticed how much I like it, they’d stop paying me”), a lady who grows risotto rice on the family farm and the chatelaine of a former hunting lodge with Lord Byron connections.
