Episode 1: Bring the Heat

Summary

Tim Allen and Richard Karn gather the best builders from across the country and pit them head to head as they create mind-blowing builds. In the first episode, the builders must create a class A fire extinguisher, before going on to craft an all-season leaf blower that can also melt ice and snow.

Review

If you’re wondering whether that’s Tim “Voice of Buzz Lightyear” Allen presenting, yes it is. But he was also Tim “the Toolman” Taylor for eight years on Home Improvement, which is where the impetus for this series comes from. With his co-star on that sitcom Richard Karn, Allen sets the best builders in the US weekly tasks, starting with a fire extinguisher, then a leaf blower that can also melt ice and snow.

Contestants are given a box of bits and have to produce the goods in double-quick time. UK Reassembler James May would be in hog heaven – and at least one of the resultant gizmos looks like something Arnie would happily brandish in a Terminator movie. Great fun.
