Episode 25: Great British Menu: The Finals: Starter

Summary

Andi Oliver presents as the eight winning chefs from the regional heats battle to get their starter course to the banquet celebrating British invention and innovation. The rivals are cooking to impress Matthew Fort, Oliver Peyton, Rachel Khoo and guest judge comedian Phil Wang.

Review

After eight weeks of innovative cooking, the winning regional chefs battle it out every night this week for the honour of serving a dish at Friday’s banquet. “I’ve fasted for 36 hours in preparation for this,” says new judge Rachel Khoo, who was remarkably picky in the earlier rounds although she – along with everyone else who tasted it – did give Oli Marlow’s starter full marks so hopefully she’ll be similarly impressed by today’s dishes. Guest judge for the starters is Phil Wang, who lightens the mood nicely. “Well, I’ve eaten a Galaxy before,” he jokes, before tucking into Hywel Griffith’s Great Nebula of Andromeda. The judging throws up some surprises.
