Episode 16: MasterChef

Summary

John Torode and Gregg Wallace present the first episode of finals week, in which the five remaining contenders must cook a five-course lunch at the City of London's Plaisterers Hall for members of the hospitality sector who delivered thousands of meals to frontline workers during the first lockdown. The contestants must each serve up as dish of their own creation, inspired by their own lockdown experience, then return to the studio to make culinary tributes to their heroes.

Review

Five amateur cooks are left in the competition and they all have one goal in mind — to lift that MasterChef trophy (and start an exciting new career as a result, of course). But first they must prepare a five-course meal for 20 members of the hospitality sector who generously delivered thousands of meals to frontline workers during lockdown.

As the week progresses, the contestants’ numbers are reduced while the challenges get tougher: on Thursday they must impress some of the best chefs in the country (including Monica Galetti) with a menu of classic dishes at a dinner hosted by the legendary Michel Roux Jr at Le Gavroche.
