Episode 1: The Shift: Women on the Force

Summary

PC Pauline Law leads a drugs raid and PCs Emaleigh Simeson and Toni McMahon bag their first independent arrest before working a challenging night shift.

Review

It’s back to Yorkshire, but not for another scenic travelogue. Instead the cameras are following the staff of North Yorkshire Police, both on duty and off. Scarborough may be a holiday hotspot, but at night it’s subject to the same crises as anywhere else, as two young officers discover when they’re called out to a potential suicide. They’re in for a long night.

In Selby, PC Pauline Law leads a drugs raid on a flat. There’s white powder and a set of scales in open view on the kitchen counter – and what else? And in York, 999 call handler Katharine Johnson relies on her children to cheer her up after a tough day: “It’s lovely to hear what [ital] they’ve [ital] done.”
