Episode 2: Jamie: Keep Cooking Family Favourites

Summary

Jamie Oliver rustles up avocado hollandaise served with steamed cod and asparagus for a weeknight supper, and shows how to make a simple pizza dough that's perfect for cooking in a conventional oven, topped with sausage, grapes and pine nuts. Buddy also gets involved and knocks up a home-made sun-dried tomato pesto to go with it.

Review

These recipes are so clever. I have no idea if Jamie Oliver thinks them up himself or if he has an army of bright sparks involved, but the sheer simplicity and culinary cunning are something else.

First up tonight, a cod dish with a “hollandaise like you’ve never seen before.” Why? Because it’s un-split-able. You could argue it’s not a hollandaise at all but an egg yolk and avocado smoothie, but it still looks the business and the whole thing feels “classy, really classy”.

After that, a home-made pizza with a slightly radical topping that Jamie keeps insisting is brilliant, involving sausages, rosemary and grapes. All this plus cameos from Jamie’s very photogenic family.
