Review

On the team’s first visit to the spectacular Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, Marc Allum was thrilled to be shown an ornate Chinese table that was one of the most valuable ever seen on the Roadshow. He said it was worth up to £120,000.

Although the treasures brought in this time don’t reach those giddy heights, there are lots of interesting items, while some of the responses to the valuations are simply priceless. My favourite is from the 98-year-old man with an old pistol he bought for 50 shillings in 1955 from a lad who was emigrating to Canada. “Eh? Away with yer!” he gasps when Robert Tilney tells him what it’s worth now.
