Episode 3: Peril on the Horizon

Summary

Chongo is unwilling to share buffalo with the rest of the pride, Fig continues to give vital lessons to the young cub, and a cheetah and hyena have a fight.

Review

Watching this series you feel as if you’re getting to know the individual leopards, cheetahs and lions we follow each week. It’s a sort of loping docu-soap, one that has been going on for generations. Short of going on safari in Kenya, you’d have a job being more up-close-and-personal with them and it makes for delightful Sunday-teatime viewing.

This week, big lion male Chongo shows why he’s very much the mane man: watch the look in his eyes as he faces down two young interlopers. He is also, and apparently this is common among male lions, an absolute sociopath when it comes to sharing food. Even with the mother of his cubs. And even when she killed it.
