Review

Farming isn’t just tough, it can also be precarious. In the wilds of north-west Scotland, for crofters Helen and Graham there are worries about one of their cattle, Minnie, who looks too thin, though she’s eating heartily enough.

But Graham fears she could be suffering from a wasting disease, which is incurable and highly contagious. If Minnie is sick, then the rest of the smallholding’s stock, including sheep and pigs, could also be at risk.

There are fears, too, for tenant farmer Emma and her husband Ewan in Northumberland when bad news arrives from the Forestry Commission about a significant chunk of rented acres.
