Review

This cheerful documentary series was filmed before lockdown – we have reached winter in the farming year – so the shadow of what we, the audience, knows was to come hangs heavy.
It’s particularly poignant as some of the cattle farmers involved talk about their existing difficulties. The market is rough due to Brexit uncertainties and climate change, and prices fetched at auction are dropping. As tenant farmer Emma, who works moorland with her husband Euan in Northumberland, puts it before the family heads off to auction to buy cows: “If everybody is getting out [of the cattle business], maybe it’s a good time to get in.”
