Review

It would take most of this page to give you a plot summary of where this florid Texan crime thriller has got to, but the plot isn’t really the point. We know now who killed the sister of our protagonist, Allegra, via the car-bomb in episode one. But the main reason to watch isn’t the whodunnit but all the over-ripe characters rattling around the seamy border town of San Bonifacio.

Rosario Dawson as Allegra bestrides the place in various kick-ass trouser suits; there are surreal touches like the camel that shows up at a key moment in this final double-bill; there are more big showdown scenes and pulpy twists; and in the end it all feels like a hard-boiled hymn to strong women and slippery men.
