Review

At any moment this fairground fever-dream of a show can go in any direction. So many characters collide (or kill each other) in the sun-bleached Texas border town, we have our work cut out remembering which way is up, who can now be trusted and who is in league with the devil.

The devil in this case is a grinning arms dealer played by Alan Cumming, who travels in a camper van and has a Bond villain’s verbose way with a gun. Cumming is great, of course, but so is everyone else.

The whole thing feels more suited to a returning drama than a one-off mini-series, but let’s enjoy it while it lasts, as ice-cool Allegra (Rosario Dawson) decides whether to throw her lot in with rich renegade Jake Spivey.
