Episode 1: Cotswolds and Kent

Summary

Tim and Emily fell in love with their 16th-century, Grade II-listed Cotswold cottage on first viewing, despite an abundance of dark beams, low ceilings and woodchip. For George, the project is his oldest house yet. And In Kent he tackles an oast house. Can he design a super cool bedroom for eight-year-old Bella in this unusual tower?

Review

Prepare to sigh with envy at the transformation of a 16th-century Cotswold cottage from a sturdily built but cramped and unkempt home to a thing of sympathetically restored beauty. George Clarke is of course the fairy godfather as he advises new owners Tim and Emily on how to spend their hefty £100,000 budget.

Naturally, though, unexpected costs keep cropping up throughout the build, which the couple are largely undertaking themselves. It’s often tiresome, dreary work, poor Emily despairs of ever getting rid of years of accumulated lime plaster and wallpaper.

Clarke also visits Kent and a couple who want to re-vamp an oast house to make a groovy bedroom for their daughter.
