Review

Margaret Fleming was a vulnerable woman with learning difficulties who lived under the supposed care of two of her late father’s friends Edward Cairney and Avril Jones. But in 2016 police in the west of Scotland were contacted by a social worker, worried for Margaret’s well-being.

It was the start of an extraordinary inquiry that unfolded over three years until Cairney and Jones stood trial for Margaret’s murder. Her body has never been found and police established she has never been seen alive by an independent witness since 1999.

For the first time cameras follow a murder trial in a riveting two-part documentary that concludes tomorrow. Interviews with police and legal teams give context and background.
