Episode 21: Nateby Inn

Summary

The first visit of the week is Nateby Inn in Cumbria, where landlady Gaynor Walker is ready with a warm welcome. A trip to Gaynor's local brewery turns out to be a barrel of laughs when one guest beats another in a cask-rolling competition, before a broken cooker creates chaos in the kitchen the following morning.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Surrounded by the wilds of Cumbria, on a popular walkers’ route and not far from the Yorkshire Dales, the Nateby Inn doesn’t need much selling. Or does it? Gaynor Walker’s pub-cum-B&B is home to an awful lot of chintz and, to her chagrin, a cooker that can’t quite cope with double breakfast orders from her Four in a Bed competitors.

To ensure appetites all round for her full Cumbrian, she takes her rivals to the local brewery for a cask-rolling competition, and over dinner one of them reveals a penchant for the simple life: he once lived in a cave. Is his B&B stone age, or all mod cons?
