Episode 1: How to Build British: Bentley

Summary

Documentary charting the step-by-step process of the construction of impressive vehicles, beginning by following the making of a new £170,000 Continental GT in the Bentley factory. From the design teams to the craftsmen in the wood shop, this is the definitive guide of how to build a motor car.

Review

Yes, it feels like a great big advert for the wonders of the Bentley Continental, and yes, the levels of nerdy detail are slightly nuts, but this is mesmerising. If you have any interest in cars or engineering the deep dive into Bentley's factory in Crewe will have you rubbing your thighs like Vic Reeves on Shooting Stars.

The Continental GT is a blingy grand tourer, beloved of footballers and rappers (who refer to it as an MFB for reasons I won’t explain), but seeing the craft and tech that go into it is fabulous. All the wiring and the stitching and the Hawaiian surfboard wood veneer and the technical stuff about coined edges and takt times and engine marriage tables – fill your boots.
