Episode 2: El Dorado City of Gold

Summary

Albert Lin heads into Colombia's jungles, hoping with the help of technology to uncover what the Spanish conquistadors failed to find - the truth about the lost city of gold.

Review

In the heavily forested Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains of Colombia, striking discoveries are being made about an ancient civilisation. Not much is known about the Tayrona people, but as Albert Lin discovers in Ciudad Perdida, made up of flattened platforms perched on a ridge, they were accomplished engineers who also knew all about gilding. Their encounters with Spanish conquistadors, who thought they’d found the inhabitants of El Dorado, led to them being virtually wiped out.

Now, with laser technology pointing the way, Lin is embarking on an exhausting trek to find what might be an entirely new city. As archaeologist Santiago Giraldo says, “We gotta put boots on the ground… to see where pixels become reality.” Exploring is hard.
