Episode 10: Too Cold for Hell

Summary

Tracking a local conman, Frank and Lu make some unlikely allies when they encounter a pair of deadly gangsters. Mark Benton and Jo Joyner star in the comedy drama about an oddball couple of private detectives who investigate crime in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Review

The end of the series has come around all-too quickly, but before we say goodbye, there are some revelations from DI Marlowe about Frank’s past and the reasons why he had to leave the police force.

As it turns out, there’s more than a touch of melancholy to Frank’s back story, but then this is a slightly edgier instalment all round, what with one criminal getting shot at close range (complete with an arc of blood spray - not very daytime telly, I must say) and James Dreyfus delivering lines like “I am now finding myself extremely vexed” in his guest role as menacing gangster Claude Mortimer. It’s a world away from Gimme Gimme Gimme.
