Later, she tracks down the secret spot from which Bonnie Prince Charlie started the doomed Jacobite uprising, before ending her latest leg observing and interacting with a colony of seals.

Review

hat’s the thing about Scotland, you never know what the weather’s going to do from one minute to the next. Susan Calman was snowed on in Edinburgh, and in this Highlands episode she gets rained on at Loch Ness. But the gods are in her favour when she visits one of the country’s most famous views: Loch Shiel from the Glenfinnan Monument. It’s clear, bright and absolutely gorgeous, and a perfect advertisement (which is really what this programme is).

There aren’t really many secrets to be uncovered – even about the Loch Ness Monster – but Calman proves to be a devotee of an unexpected sport, one involving such strange items as Fingal’s Fingers and Atlas stones. Stumped? It transpires that Fort William is home to several “strongest man” champions…
