Episode 5: Dressed to Kill

Summary

When famed French designer Coco Chanel is the target of a brazen assassination attempt, Frankie and the team are hired to protect her. Period crime drama, starring Lauren Lee Smith.

Review

You can tell that Frankie Drake Mysteries comes from the same stable as Murdoch Mysteries because both shows tend to parachute in real-life historical figures from the period, a move that kind of turns the detectives into perspicacious versions of Forrest Gump.

Here, it’s Coco Chanel who arrives on the scene, only to be the victim of an attempted assassination – hence Frankie going undercover at her business and encountering some brylcreemed, cravat-wearing suspects.

While the pace is leisurely (don’t go expecting a haute couture Day of the Jackal), it’s all quite cute and endearing, plus the fact that a few French-speaking actors have been hired means we’re generally spared any “good moaning” accents.
