Episode 1: Shop Well for Less?

Summary

Alex Jones and Steph McGovern head to Caerphilly to meet the Ingram family, who are struggling to cope financially after having two sets of twins in less than two years. Parents Liam and Emma's desire for big name brands is also crippling their finances, so in an effort to get their spending down, the family's budget-blowing belongings are replaced with alternatives disguised in plain packaging.

Review

Like its companion, Eat Well for Less?, this is a great show if you like shopping, judging people and feeling smug. Steph McGovern and Alex Jones visit the Ingrams family in Caerphilly – Liam and Emma, two sets of twins under two, ten-year-old Mackenzie and granny Katrina.

The family are prodigious spenders – Liam and Mackenzie have £2,000 of Arsenal FC merchandise and Mackenzie, whom everyone admits to spoiling, balks at trading in his iPhone, £300 sunglasses and expensive aftershave (remember, he’s ten) for cheaper versions.

With all of those little ‘uns the family gallops through nappies, so Steph and Alex try to persuade mum and dad to trade down to a supermarket budget brand. And as for wipes, they estimate the family use 40,000 a year for cleaning surfaces. You’ll be shaking your head throughout.
