Review

We’re reminded again tonight of the hugely impressive way that RNLI volunteers give up their free time to be on call. I know this is well-trodden ground, but it’s still extraordinary when you meet, say, Adam, a young doctor who works 60-hour weeks at a hospital in Truro, then returns to London to do shifts as a volunteer on the Thames lifeboats.

Adam has to help rescue a man who is in the water clinging to a wooden post as the current swirls around him. But the most dramatic challenge tonight is in Cardigan Bay, where a runaway motorboat is out of control, spinning in circles near a beach. How on earth do you stop it?
