Review

The work of Alfred Hitchcock is the first to be dissected in this straightforward series of film director profiles.

Critics such as Derek Malcolm and Neil Norman give their views on Hitch’s bulky back catalogue that includes classics such as Vertigo, North by Northwest, Psycho and Rear Window (which the critics agree “has everything you want from a Hitchcock film”). Recurring Hitchcockian themes (train journeys, climactic scenes shot against impressive landmarks, film noirish plots involving suspicion) as well as his trademark cameo appearances are touched upon and there’s a wealth of clips.

There’s nothing startlingly new here but it’s still a useful reminder of Hitch’s glittering cinema career.
