Review

It’s a fairly standard Taskmaster scene you see here. Comedian in safari suit confronts a watermelon full of darts. Just the kind of gently surreal tableau the show likes to offer – others this week include Russell Howard forcing Alex Horne to recite quotes from the Buddha (“More spiritual, mate!”), and Radio 1 DJ Alice Levine posting a little wind-up man to Australia.

They’re competing to do odd tasks to win prizes they have each brought in that are, as requested, “hairy but not alive”. Tim Vine’s offering is a genuine hair from Elvis’s head. (“Please tell me that hair was caught in a trap,” quips Howard…)

The tasks are half the pleasure, the other half is the postmortem where the comics protest as host Greg Davies ranks their efforts. It feels like being on a wet weekend with a bunch of wildly mismatched friends – stupidly good fun.
