Summary

Greg Davies returns with series six of Taskmaster. Still resolutely attached to Greg's apron strings is Alex Horne, and he'll provide key stats and analysis as five fresh new faces - Alice Levine, Asim Chaudhry, Liza Tarbuck, Russell Howard and Tim Vine - tackle the Taskmaster's weird whims.

Episode 1: The Old Soft, Curved Padlock

Summary

Alice Levine, Asim Chaudhry, Liza Tarbuck, Russell Howard and Tim Vine perform wheelbarrow stunts, build with fruit and emerge from wardrobes, as they compete for the ultimate prize - Taskmaster Greg Davies's disembodied head dipped in gold. As always, Alex Horne is on hand to assist with quiet dignity.

Review

UKTV likes this show so much it has commissioned four series at once, so Greg Davies will be judging comedians doing futile tasks for years to come. And as the show returns, we’re reminded why: it’s a rompingly daft format that pins a grin on your face.

All that happens is that Alex Horne devises oddball challenges – making a tower out of lemons, performing a stunt in a wheelbarrow, and so on – and the panel each have a go, with the resulting spectacle, as Russell Howard puts it, being “like watching someone have a breakdown during their Blue Peter audition tape”.

Amid all the slapstick, there are always moments that feel pleasantly surreal – Liza Tarbuck’s wheelbarrow effort is disturbing – and phrases such as “You didn’t use all your wields up!” that you would only hear on this show. And Tim Vine wears a safari suit.
