Episode 2: Mary Berry's Country House Secrets

Summary

Mary visits Scone Palace near Perth, where she is invited to help Lady Mansfield prepare for a special dinner with traditional Scottish reels. She also enjoys salmon fishing on the family's private stretch of the Tay, and the regal pastime of Highland deer stalking with William, the future Earl of Mansfield and the family's long-serving gamekeeper.

Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Everyone is delighted to see Mary Berry when she turns up at “Scotland’s crowning glory”, Scone Palace, another sumptuously lovely ancestral home with a reputation for delightful dinner parties.

She’s met by the young man of the house, Viscount Stormont, who gives her a polite kiss before showing her into the breathtakingly beautiful, and very long, Long Gallery.

It’s another gracious trot around an aristocratic pile, with a little light history, largely about the Stone of Scone and its place in the crowning of a reputed 42 monarchs, accompanied by some cooking as Mary Berry takes command of the enormous kitchen.

Then it’s out on the lovely moors to try to spot a deer.
