Mary's time with the family reveals stories of romance and tragedy as she discovers more of this extraordinary home. Review

A star rating of 3 out of 5.

Mary Berry makes a posset for a “magical woodland party” at pretty Powderham Castle near Exeter in Devon. It’s being thrown as a big thank you from the Earl of Devon, Charlie Courtney, and his American ex-actress wife Allison Joy, or “AJ” to everyone who’s helped them settle into their home of two years.

The pair met in a Las Vegas bar when Charlie was on a rugby tour and AJ, who appeared in My So Called Life and Baywatch, was on a hen night. Mary falls headlong for the beautiful castle as she’s shown secret doors, a secret window and even a secret room.

And, in a notable first, she enjoys curried cockles, Powderham’s signature dish.
