Episode 1: Foisted!

Summary

The comedy starring Larry David returns. Larry tries to rid himself of an inept assistant, offends Jeff's barber and gets into hot water over a new project.

Review

I was hoping to wield with assurance the words “pret-ty pret-ty pret-ty good” (Larry David’s catchphrase that’s being parroted in all the publicity), but it’s actually pretty bloomin’ annoying that HBO is refusing to preview this series – presumably sitting tight on all their shows after recent leaks online.

It is good news, of course, that Curb Your Enthusiasm is back. I have never failed to laugh deliriously at any of the 80 episodes made since it began in 2000. When we last saw Larry six years ago, the short-fused curmudgeon was in Paris, having been drummed out of New York by Mayor Bloomberg for offending Michael J Fox. Series nine see Larry back on home turf in LA with his buddies in place: Jeff (his Oliver Hardy), Susie (the human volcano) and Leon (the uninvited house guest who never went away). Guest stars include Elizabeth Banks and Bryan Cranston (the latter as Larry’s shrink). Larry is still “yelling for society” and one can only wonder what pops he’ll take at Trump.
