Summary

Taskmaster Greg Davies and live-in PA Alex Horne return for a fifth series, dragging with them a quintet of brave yet understandably terrified comedians: Aisling Bea, Bob Mortimer, Mark Watson, Nish Kumar and Sally Phillips. Once more Greg has set them a spiky thicket of tricky tasks designed to encourage genius, but which can also result in hapless humiliation.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Poor Mark Watson. In this episode alone he’s faced with a task involving balloons (he has a phobia of them), attempts something very ambitious with a water cooler that in no way pays off and in another task pulls off an incredible feat which inexplicably lands him in last place.

The final indignation comes when it’s revealed that he’s done a pointless (well, even more pointless) task that was set for him and him alone, which in his own words “overshadowed” five months of his life and for which he is then “shattered” to receive no points. It’s futile, surprisingly full of pathos and also very, very funny.
