Summary

Lewis, 18, is rushed into the hospital after coming off his motorbike and colliding with two cars. He is immediately taken for a full body CT scan as doctors are concerned about the extent of the injuries to his pelvis, arm and head. Meanwhile, 27-year-old Sam awaits X-ray results after he fainted and cut his lip while smoking a Cuban cigar at a barbecue.

We often marvel at the tenderness between parents and children or husbands and wives on 24 Hours in A&E, but the most touching moment here is between siblings. Lewis, 18, has come off his motorbike; his mum says he’s sought solace in speed since the murder of a beloved uncle two years ago. In “resus”, Lewis is barely conscious, but big brother James still comforts him, and tells him he loves him.

We also meet raconteur Sam, 27, whose cowboy hat and bloodied T-shirt make him look like an extra from a zombie western. He’s fainted after smoking a Cuban cigar, and has a cut on his chin – but the missing tooth? That happened 15 years ago, in the French Alps…
