Lions v The Lions Highlights 03.07

Summary

Lions v The British & Irish Lions.

Review

Since their first meeting in 1891, the British and Irish Lions have contested 13 series with South Africa, of which they have won four and drawn one. The bid to narrow that gap begins today with the first of five warm-up games ahead of the three-Test series starting in three weeks’ time.

Their Johannesburg-based opponents are also called the Lions — for sponsorship reasons, the Emirates Lions – and they will doubtless make life hard for Warren Gatland’s men, his 37-strong squad facing the additional challenge of having to operate in a coronavirus bubble. Sky has exclusve rights to live coverage of all the Lions’ matches, but free-to-air rugby union is on offer today, with Ireland v Japan on Channel 4.
