Summary

The team works to restore a clapping monkey toy, an ornate Victorian travelling treasure box, and an iconic 1950s Wurlitzer jukebox.

Review

Rating: 3 out of 5.

In the workshop of dreams today, a nightmare… Among the treasured old pieces brought in to be fixed up, there's a vintage version of those tinny toys that have haunted popular culture from Rebel without a Cause to The Simpsons.

Yes, it’s a sinister, cymbals-banging mechanical monkey. Clock specialist Steven Fletcher has the task of bringing it back to life, and no doubt has it clang around in his subconscious for a while.

More appealingly, jukebox-lover Mike brings in his 1950s Wurlitzer. It’s seen better days and won’t play records any more, but Mike reckons music simply “doesn't sound the same from a CD or an iPod". Specialist Laurence Richardson does his best to get it back on song.
