Episode 5: 24 Hours in A&E

Summary

A 61-year-old woman is airlifted to hospital after a car mounted the pavement and ran her over and doctors quickly get her into the CT scanner to ascertain the full extent of her injuries. Elsewhere, 91-year-old Sam arrives after suffering a suspected stroke, and four-month-old boy Teddy is rushed in after falling face first out of his car seat, hitting the pavement.

Review

As the schedules start to fill up with heart-warming festive fare, may I make the case for 24 Hours in A&E? Yes, there’s an element of tragedy, but it only serves to make the rest of it all the more tender.

Doctors think Sam, 91, has had a stroke; wife Roshan is terrified. The pair met when she was an air hostess and he a pilot, but her parents were less than impressed – he was 23 years older. But they married anyway, and remain besotted, despite the fact that Sam now has Alzheimer’s.

Poor Lauren is desperately worried for her four-month-old son, Teddy, who fell out of his car seat; and Richard is trying very hard to keep his daughter Annie calm after wife Nicky, 61, is run over by a car.
