Episode 3: Yonderland

Summary

With the Elders exiled in Debbie's loft, Cuddly Dick seizes control of the press and tries to sully the Chosen One's reputation. Debbie needs to restore Yonderland's faith in her so she sets about dealing with wannabe crime-fighting superheroes the Bird and the Bee, while Negatus is fed up of being at the bottom of the social ladder and decides to go it alone.

Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This episode, the best so far, plays like a lusty superhero spoof with a quick trouncing of westerns thrown in for good measure. While the Elders are displaced by a gang of evildoers led by Cuddly Dick (Stephen Fry in a role recalling Robert Hardy’s Minister of Magic in the Harry Potter films), a cloud of lawlessness descends upon the land. Can mysterious crime-fighter the Bird swoop in and clean up?

The comedy team’s well-known challenge to make each other laugh on set is easy to imagine with all the vocal peculiarities being adopted – the blooper reel must be hours long. This week’s prize goes to Ben Willbond as a florid old duffer of an idle millionaire.
